Goldfinger

The 1964 British spy action film directed by Guy Hamilton, with a screenplay by Richard Maibaum and Paul Dehn, is based on Ian Fleming's 1959 novel of the same name and is the third installment in the James Bond series, featuring Sean Connery as agent 007. The plot centers on Bond's investigation of gold magnate Auric Goldfinger (Gert Fröbe), who plans "Operation Grand Slam" — detonating a nuclear device inside the United States Bullion Depository at Fort Knox to irradiate the gold reserves, thereby increasing the value of his own holdings. Bond faces numerous challenges, including the lethal Oddjob (Harold Sakata), known for his deadly hat, and pilot Pussy Galore (Honor Blackman), who initially works for Goldfinger but later allies with Bond. The film was the first in the series to extensively feature gadgets, including the iconic Aston Martin DB5 equipped with various devices, and introduced elements that became staples of subsequent Bond films, such as an elaborate pre-credit sequence, humor, and exotic locations. The music was composed by John Barry, with the title song performed by Shirley Bassey. Premiering on September 17, 1964, in London, the film received positive critical acclaim and became the franchise's first blockbuster, grossing over $125 million against a $3 million budget, and won an Academy Award for Best Sound Editing.​
