The 1965 British spy film directed by Terence Young is the fourth installment in the James Bond series, featuring Sean Connery as agent 007. The plot is based on Ian Fleming's 1961 novel, itself developed from an original screenplay by Kevin McClory, Jack Whittingham, and Fleming. In the film, the criminal organization SPECTRE hijacks two nuclear warheads from a NATO aircraft and threatens to destroy a major city unless a ransom is paid. Bond travels to the Bahamas to confront SPECTRE agent Emilio Largo (Adolfo Celi) and avert disaster. The film is notable for its underwater sequences, suspenseful storyline, and became one of the highest-grossing entries in the franchise, earning $141.2 million against a $9 million budget. It also won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.
