Grafted

A 2024 body horror film directed by Sasha Rainbow, co-produced by France, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The story follows Wei (Joyena Sun), a brilliant Chinese student who wins a scholarship to a prestigious New Zealand university specializing in medical research. Since childhood, Wei has suffered from a congenital facial defect and aims to continue her late father's work, who attempted to find a cure for their family's ailment. Upon moving to New Zealand, she faces hostility from her cousin Angela (Jess Hong) and her friends, as well as betrayal from a professor who steals her research. After a tragic altercation with Angela, Wei accidentally kills her and, in a panic, uses an experimental solution to graft her cousin's face onto her own. This event triggers a series of dark occurrences, with Wei, disguised under the identities of her victims, seeking revenge on her tormentors. The film explores themes of identity, vengeance, and the moral boundaries of science. Filming took place in Auckland, New Zealand, and it premiered in January 2025 on streaming platforms.
