Soviet and Russian rock band formed on November 8, 1984, in Omsk by Egor Letov and Konstantin Ryabinov. It is one of the most influential and cult bands of Siberian punk rock. The band's early music was punk rock with strong garage influences, which persisted throughout their creative activity, and in the 1990s, their style shifted towards psychedelic rock. In 1987, the band performed at the Novosibirsk Rock Festival, leaving a strong impression on the audience. During this period, Letov recorded several albums, including "Myshelovka," "Khorosho!!," "Totalitarizm," "Nekrofiliya," and "Krasnyy albom." In 1988, albums "Vsyo idyot po planu," "Tak zakalyalas stal," and "Boyevoy stimul" were recorded. After disbanding in 1990, the band reunited in 1993 and continued active work until Letov's death in 2008. Throughout its existence, Grazhdanskaya Oborona released over 20 studio albums and had a significant impact on the development of Russian rock music.
