Lyapis Trubetskoy

A Belarusian musical group founded in September 1989 in Minsk by Sergey Mikhalok, a student of the Belarusian Institute of Culture, along with Dmitry Sviridovich, Ruslan Vladyko, and Alexey Lyubavin. Their first performance took place at the "Try Kolery" festival, after which the band actively developed, combining elements of pop-rock, ska, punk rock, and reggae in their music. In 1996, the band released the album "Ranetoe Serdtse," which brought them widespread recognition. In the following years, Lyapis Trubetskoy continued to experiment with musical styles, releasing albums such as "Ty Kinula," "Krasota," "Zolotye Yaitsy," and "Kapital." The latter marked a shift towards more politically and socially oriented lyrics. In 2007, the album "Kapital" was released, followed by "Manifest" in 2008, continuing the political theme. The band received numerous awards, including RAMP, Rock Coronation, Chart Dozen, and Steppe Wolf. In 2014, Sergey Mikhalok announced the dissolution of the group, and on August 31 of the same year, the band ceased its activities. After the split, members founded the projects Brutto and Trubetskoy. In 2022, Lyapis Trubetskoy resumed its activities, performing charity concerts and continuing its musical endeavors.
