Johnny Mnemonic

A 1995 American cyberpunk action film directed by Robert Longo, with a screenplay by William Gibson based on his 1981 short story of the same name. Set in a dystopian 2021, the world is plagued by a tech-induced disease and dominated by megacorporations and organized crime. The protagonist, Johnny (Keanu Reeves), is a data courier who uses a brain implant to securely transport confidential information. His memory capacity is overloaded, and he must deliver the data on time or face fatal consequences. Johnny becomes entangled in a conspiracy involving a megacorporation seeking to suppress the information. His adversaries include the yakuza, led by Takahashi (Takeshi Kitano), who hires the ruthless assassin Shinji (Denis Akiyama) to eliminate Johnny. Assisting him are J-Bone (Ice-T), leader of the rebel group "Lo-Teks," and bodyguard Jane (Dina Meyer), who suffers from a nerve syndrome prevalent in this technologically saturated society. Together, they aim to decode and disseminate data that could save millions from a deadly disease.
