A 2005 American animated comedy film produced by DreamWorks Animation and released by DreamWorks Pictures. Directed by Eric Darnell and Tom McGrath, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Mark Burton and Billy Frolick, the story follows four animals from New York's Central Park Zoo: Alex the lion (voiced by Ben Stiller), Marty the zebra (Chris Rock), Melman the giraffe (David Schwimmer), and Gloria the hippopotamus (Jada Pinkett Smith). Alex is the zoo's main attraction and enjoys his life in captivity, while Marty dreams of experiencing the wild. On his tenth birthday, Marty escapes the zoo to explore the outside world. Alex, Melman, and Gloria set out to find their friend, but all four are captured and decided to be sent to a wildlife reserve in Kenya. However, due to the intervention of a group of penguins aiming to reach Antarctica, the ship is wrecked, and the friends find themselves on the island of Madagascar. Initially believing they are in a zoo, they soon realize they are in the wild. They encounter a colony of lemurs led by King Julien XIII (Sacha Baron Cohen). The lemurs face threats from the fossa, local predators, and see the newcomers as potential protectors. Gradually, the friends adapt to life in the wild, but Alex begins to feel his predatory instincts, threatening their friendship. The film explores themes of freedom, friendship, and self-discovery, showing how the characters overcome their fears and find their place in the world.
