Mary Shelley's Frankenstein

A 1994 American science fiction horror film directed by Kenneth Branagh, who also stars as Victor Frankenstein. The screenplay was written by Steph Lady and Frank Darabont, with Francis Ford Coppola, James V. Hart, and John Veitch serving as producers. The film is considered one of the most faithful adaptations of Mary Shelley's novel "Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus." The story follows Victor Frankenstein (Kenneth Branagh), a young scientist from Geneva obsessed with conquering death after his mother's tragic demise. Enrolling at the University of Ingolstadt, he studies anatomy and electricity under Professor Waldman (John Cleese), eventually creating a living being from parts of various corpses. The Creature (Robert De Niro), rejected by its creator, escapes and faces societal hostility, leading to a series of tragic events. The Creature kills Victor's younger brother and later his fiancée Elizabeth (Helena Bonham Carter), whom Victor resurrects by transplanting her head and hands onto another body. Realizing her unnatural state, Elizabeth commits suicide. In the climax, Victor and the Creature perish in the Arctic. The film also features Tom Hulce (Henry Clerval), Ian Holm (Alphonse Frankenstein), Richard Briers (blind old man), and Aidan Quinn (Captain Robert Walton). With a budget of $45 million, the film grossed $112 million worldwide and received mixed reviews, with critics praising its visuals and performances but criticizing its theatricality.
