Daybreakers

A science fiction action horror film directed by Michael and Peter Spierig in 2009, co-produced by the United States and Australia. Set in the year 2019, a global plague has transformed most of the human population into vampires. The remaining humans are hunted and farmed for blood, which has become a scarce resource. The protagonist, vampire hematologist Edward Dalton (Ethan Hawke), is working on developing a synthetic blood substitute to prevent the extinction of the vampire race. His perspective shifts after encountering a group of human survivors led by a former vampire nicknamed Elvis (Willem Dafoe), who has discovered a way to reverse vampirism. Together, they strive to find a solution to save humanity and end vampire dominance. The film also stars Sam Neill as corporate leader Charles Bromley and Claudia Karvan as survivor Audrey Bennett. The movie received positive reviews for its original take on vampire lore and its bleak futuristic atmosphere.
