The Island of Dr. Moreau​

The 1996 science fiction horror film, directed by John Frankenheimer, is the third major adaptation of H.G. Wells' 1896 novel of the same name. The plot follows Edward Douglas (David Thewlis), a UN employee who, after surviving a plane crash, finds himself on the mysterious island of Dr. Moreau (Marlon Brando). Moreau is a Nobel Prize-winning scientist conducting experiments to create human-animal hybrids through genetic engineering and surgery. His assistant, Dr. Montgomery (Val Kilmer), aids in these experiments. Douglas encounters the community of hybrids, known as the "Beast Folk," who live under strict laws imposed by Moreau. Among them is Aissa (Fairuza Balk), who possesses more human-like features and forms a bond with Douglas. As events unfold, the hybrids become aware of their nature and rebel against Moreau, leading to chaos and destruction on the island. The film's production was plagued by numerous issues, including the replacement of the original director Richard Stanley with Frankenheimer, on-set conflicts, and adverse weather conditions. The film received negative reviews from critics and was a box office failure, grossing approximately $49 million against a $40 million budget. Marlon Brando received the Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Supporting Actor, and the film was nominated in several other categories of this anti-award.​
