A German pop duo formed in 1983 in West Berlin by composer and producer Dieter Bohlen and vocalist Thomas Anders, they became one of Germany's most successful musical acts, selling over 200 million records worldwide. Their debut single "You're My Heart, You're My Soul" (1984) topped the charts in 35 countries and sold over 8 million copies. More hits followed: "Cheri, Cheri Lady," "Atlantis Is Calling (S.O.S. for Love)," "Brother Louie," "Geronimo's Cadillac" and "You Can Win If You Want." Those records spread their popularity across Europe, Asia, South America, and the Middle East. Between 1985 and 1987, they released two albums per year, selling 65 million records in three years. After disbanding in 1987, Bohlen founded the project Blue System, while Anders pursued a solo career. In 1998, the duo reunited, releasing the album "Back for Good," which topped the charts in 15 countries and sold 3 million copies in Europe. They continued to release successful albums, including "Alone" (1999), "Year of the Dragon" (2000), "America" (2001), "Victory" (2002), and "Universe" (2003). In 2003, the duo disbanded permanently following the release of the compilation "The Final Album." Modern Talking significantly influenced the development of Eurodisco and synth-pop genres, and their music remains popular in Eastern European countries, including Latvia.
