Mud

The 2012 American coming-of-age drama film directed by Jeff Nichols follows two teenage boys, Ellis (Tye Sheridan) and Neckbone (Jacob Lofland), living in a small Arkansas town. While exploring an island on the Mississippi River, they discover a boat lodged in a tree and meet a man named Mud (Matthew McConaughey), who is hiding from the law. Mud claims he killed a man who harmed his beloved Juniper (Reese Witherspoon) and now hopes to reunite with her and escape. The boys decide to help him by bringing food and assisting in repairing the boat. In the film's climax, a violent confrontation ensues, during which Mud saves Ellis but is wounded and disappears into the river. Later, it's revealed that he survived and sailed away with his mentor, Tom Blankenship (Sam Shepard). The film delves into themes of love, loyalty, coming-of-age, and moral dilemmas, blending elements of thriller and drama.
