British rock band from Teignmouth, Devon, formed in 1994 by school friends Matthew Bellamy (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Christopher Wolstenholme (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Dominic Howard (drums). Initially performing under the names Gothic Plague and Rocket Baby Dolls, they changed their name to Muse after winning a local "Battle of the Bands" competition in 1994. Their debut album, "Showbiz" (1999), showcased a dark alternative sound with Bellamy's falsetto vocals. The second album, "Origin of Symmetry" (2001), expanded their musical palette with classical and experimental elements, establishing them as a powerful live act. The third album, "Absolution" (2003), reached number one on the UK Albums Chart and included hits like "Time Is Running Out" and "Hysteria." The fourth album, "Black Holes and Revelations" (2006), brought international success with the single "Supermassive Black Hole." Subsequent albums such as "The Resistance" (2009), "The 2nd Law" (2012), "Drones" (2015), "Simulation Theory" (2018), and "Will of the People" (2022) showcased a range of genres from progressive rock to synth-pop and political themes. Muse is known for their grand live performances and innovative approach to music. Throughout their career, the band has sold over 30 million albums worldwide and received numerous awards, including two Grammy Awards, two Brit Awards, seven MTV Europe Music Awards, and eight NME Awards. In 2012, they were honored with the Ivor Novello Award for International Achievement.
