A South Korean music artist formed in 2022 by ADOR, a subsidiary label of Hybe Corporation, under the direction of Min Hee-jin. The group comprises five members: Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein. They debuted on July 22, 2022, with the single "Attention," which became their first number-one hit in South Korea. This was followed by the singles "Hype Boy" and "Cookie," featured on their debut EP "New Jeans," released in August 2022. In January 2023, they released the single album "OMG," including tracks "Ditto" and "OMG," both achieving significant commercial success. "Ditto" became the longest-running number-one song on the Circle Digital Chart and marked their first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles Chart. Their second EP, "Get Up," released in July 2023, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and sold over one million copies in South Korea. The single "Super Shy" from this EP became their highest-charting international release. In 2024, the group made their Japanese debut with the single "Supernatural." NewJeans has received numerous accolades, including "Artist of the Year" at the 2023 MAMA Awards and Melon Music Awards, and was featured in Time's "Next Generation Leaders" list. They were also ranked as the eighth best-selling artist worldwide by IFPI in 2023. In 2024, a dispute arose between the members, Min Hee-jin, and Hybe's management, leading the group to temporarily adopt the name NJZ and announce a hiatus in March 2025 amid ongoing legal proceedings.
