Scottish composer born in 1974 in Kent, England, and raised in Glasgow, Scotland. From an early age, he studied piano, violin, and recorder under the guidance of his mother, a music teacher. He graduated from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts in musical studies. Beginning his career in 1997, he composed music for short films before expanding into television, film, video games, theater, and concert performances. He won a BAFTA award for his first film score, "Reflections upon the Origin of the Pineapple," in 2000. His work on the television drama "Fallen" earned him nominations for both the BAFTA and Ivor Novello awards. Notable projects include scores for the films "Limitless" (2011) and "Dredd" (2012), the latter of which was nominated for the World Soundtrack Public Choice Award. He also composed music for TV series such as "Spooks," "Silent Witness," "Dynasty," "Designated Survivor," and "Tales from the Loop," the last co-composed with Philip Glass. In the realm of video games, he worked on soundtracks for "Battlefield Hardline," "Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III," and "Cyberpunk 2077." His concert works include the "Celtic Concerto," written for the Inter-Celtic Festival in Lorient. He has collaborated with artists like Mogwai, Belle and Sebastian, Snow Patrol, No Doubt, and Isobel Campbell. Additionally, he composed music for major events, including the official anthem for the U.S. Olympic Team and the soundtrack for the Test Track attraction at Epcot.
