Project Hail Mary

A science fiction film by Phil Lord and Chris Miller after Andy Weir's novel Project Hail Mary; Drew Goddard wrote the screenplay and Daniel Pemberton composed the score. Ryan Gosling plays the lead, with Sandra Hüller, Milana Vayntrub and Lionel Boyce in the cast. The picture arrives in 2026. Weir's novel appeared in 2021 and rests on a single scientific premise. The Sun begins to dim: its energy is being consumed by a microscopic form of life that has spread among the nearest stars. Humanity assembles a ship and sends a crew to a system where the same affliction receded on its own, to find the reason and bring the answer back to Earth. The hero, a schoolteacher of natural science, comes to his senses aboard that ship alone and with no memory of who he is or why he flew. He rebuilds the knowledge of himself by experiment and arithmetic, step by step, and finds that another creature, arrived from a different star, is working on the same task in the same system. Saving the Earth is assembled out of arithmetic, persistence and an alliance between two beings who share no language.
