A British rock band from Oxford, formed in 1985 by school friends Thom Yorke, Colin Greenwood, Jonny Greenwood, Ed O’Brien, and Phil Selway. Originally performing under the name On a Friday, they changed their name to Radiohead in 1991 after signing with EMI. Their debut album "Pablo Honey" (1993), featuring the hit single "Creep," brought them initial popularity, but it was their second album "The Bends" (1995) and especially the critically acclaimed third album "OK Computer" (1997) that established them as one of the most innovative acts in alternative rock, earning widespread critical acclaim and a Grammy Award. The release of "Kid A" (2000) marked a dramatic shift toward experimental electronic and ambient music, which polarized listeners but cemented their reputation for bold artistic moves. Subsequent albums like "Amnesiac" (2001), "Hail to the Thief" (2003), "In Rainbows" (2007) — released with a pioneering pay-what-you-want model — "The King of Limbs" (2011), and "A Moon Shaped Pool" (2016) continued their exploration of avant-garde soundscapes. Known for their elaborate live performances and strong visual identity, shaped in part by artist Stanley Donwood, Radiohead also saw individual members achieve success through solo projects, particularly Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood with their work in The Smile. Radiohead remains one of the most influential and critically respected bands in modern music, fusing emotional depth with technological innovation and political consciousness.
