The 2012 American musical comedy film directed by Adam Shankman is based on the Broadway musical of the same name created by Chris D'Arienzo. Set in 1987 Los Angeles, the story follows Sherrie Christian (Julianne Hough), a small-town girl who arrives in the city with dreams of becoming a singer. She soon meets Drew Boley (Diego Boneta), an aspiring musician working at the iconic rock club "The Bourbon Room," managed by Dennis Dupree (Alec Baldwin) and his assistant Lonny (Russell Brand). The club faces financial difficulties and the threat of closure, especially as Los Angeles Mayor Mike Whitmore (Bryan Cranston) and his wife Patricia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) launch a campaign against rock music. To save the venue, the organizers plan a concert featuring rock star Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise), the eccentric and self-absorbed frontman of the band "Arsenal," who is on the verge of a breakup. The film is filled with musical numbers featuring 1980s hits from artists like Def Leppard, Journey, Bon Jovi, Poison, and others. Despite its star-studded cast and popular music, the film received mixed reviews from critics and underperformed at the box office, grossing $59.4 million against a $75 million budget. However, Tom Cruise's performance was highlighted as one of the film's standout elements, particularly his renditions of "Pour Some Sugar on Me" and "Wanted Dead or Alive."
