Sculpture

Is a spatial artistic practice involving the creation of three-dimensional objects through the shaping, modeling, or assembling of various materials such as stone, metal, wood, clay, plaster, and modern synthetics. Sculpture dates back to prehistoric times; among the earliest known examples are figurines from the Paleolithic era, such as the "Venus of Willendorf," estimated to be from around 25,000 BCE. In Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, and Rome, sculpture played a crucial role in religious and civic rituals and served as a medium for commemorating historical figures. During the Renaissance, sculpture reached new heights with artists like Michelangelo, Donatello, and Bernini, who combined technical mastery with humanist content. Sculpture can be monumental or small-scale, abstract or realistic, static or kinetic. In the 20th century, it evolved into new forms including installations, land art, and digital sculpture. This practice is closely connected to architecture, design, performance, and social commentary. Key moments in the history of sculpture include modernist exhibitions, the creation of public monuments, and international sculpture biennials. Sculpture remains one of the central forms of visual art, blending physical labor, spatial imagination, and conceptual depth.
