He began his music career in 2013 by posting covers of popular songs on the Vine app, which caught the attention of manager Andrew Gertler and Island Records A&R Ziggy Chareton, leading to a record deal in 2014. That same year, he released his debut EP "The Shawn Mendes EP," followed by his first studio album "Handwritten" in 2015, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, making Mendes one of five artists to achieve this before turning 18.
