The Bourne Supremacy

The 2004 American action-thriller directed by Paul Greengrass serves as the second installment in the Jason Bourne franchise and a sequel to "The Bourne Identity" (2002). While based on the character created by novelist Robert Ludlum, the film's plot significantly deviates from the 1986 novel of the same name. Set two years after the events of the first film, Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) and his girlfriend Marie Kreutz (Franka Potente) are living a quiet life in Goa, India, striving to remain unnoticed. Their peace is shattered when Russian agent Kirill (Karl Urban), under orders from oligarch Yuri Gretkov (Karel Roden), attempts to eliminate Bourne by framing him for the murder of CIA agents in Berlin. The attack results in Marie's death, prompting Bourne to believe the CIA is once again pursuing him. He decides to return to his former life to uncover the truth and avenge Marie's death. Concurrently, CIA Deputy Director Pamela Landy (Joan Allen) investigates the theft of $20 million and the murder of her agents, suspecting Bourne's involvement. She collaborates with Ward Abbott (Brian Cox), former head of Operation Treadstone, to locate and neutralize Bourne. Throughout his quest, Bourne discovers he has been framed and that the true culprits are Abbott and Gretkov, who are entangled in corrupt dealings. He travels to Moscow to seek forgiveness from the daughter of Vladimir and Neski, whom he had previously assassinated, and subsequently exposes Abbott by providing Landy with evidence of his crimes. The film concludes with Bourne calling Landy from New York, where she reveals his real name—David Webb—and his birth date and place. "The Bourne Supremacy" received positive reviews from critics for its fast-paced plot, Greengrass's direction, and Damon's performance, achieving commercial success with a worldwide gross exceeding $290 million against a $75 million budget.
