The Darkest Minds

The 2018 American science fiction thriller, directed by Jennifer Yuh, is based on Alexandra Bracken's novel of the same name. Set in a world where an unknown disease has killed 98% of children, the remaining 2% develop superpowers and are placed in special camps. Sixteen-year-old Ruby Daly (Amandla Stenberg), possessing psionic abilities, escapes from a camp with the help of physician Cate (Mandy Moore) and joins a group of teenagers: Liam Stewart (Harris Dickinson), who has telekinesis; Chubs (Skylan Brooks), with super-intelligence; and Zu (Miya Cech), who can control electricity. Together, they seek a safe haven, evading the government and bounty hunters like Lady Jane (Gwendoline Christie). Along the way, they encounter Clancy Gray (Patrick Gibson), the president's son with psionic abilities, who offers them refuge but harbors ulterior motives. The film explores themes of survival, trust, and the fight for freedom in a world where youth are considered a threat.
