The Deer Hunter

A 1978 war drama directed by Michael Cimino. The film follows three friends from a working-class town in Pennsylvania—Michael (Robert De Niro), Steven (John Savage), and Nick (Christopher Walken)—whose lives are forever changed after being sent to Vietnam. Before the war, they led ordinary lives, working at a steel mill and deer hunting, but the brutal realities of war, including captivity and a harrowing game of Russian roulette, leave deep scars on them. After returning home, Michael embarks on a journey to find Nick, who has gone missing and is deeply traumatized by the war. The Deer Hunter won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and is considered one of the most powerful anti-war films in cinema history.
