The 1998 American adventure drama film directed by Randall Wallace is based on Alexandre Dumas' novel "The Vicomte of Bragelonne." Set in France during the reign of King Louis XIV (Leonardo DiCaprio), known for his cruelty and selfishness, which leads the country into hardship and famine. Former musketeers Athos (John Malkovich), Porthos (Gérard Depardieu), and Aramis (Jeremy Irons) decide to overthrow the king by replacing him with his secret twin brother Philippe (also played by DiCaprio), who has been imprisoned for years in an iron mask to conceal his identity. D'Artagnan (Gabriel Byrne), now the captain of the royal guard, faces a difficult choice between loyalty to the king and friendship with his former comrades. The film explores themes of loyalty, honor, and redemption, showing how the musketeers unite to restore justice and save France from tyranny. Despite mixed reviews from critics, the film was a commercial success, grossing over $180 million on a $35 million budget.
