The Remains of the Day

The 1993 British-American drama film directed by James Ivory and written by Ruth Prawer Jhabvala is an adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro's 1989 novel of the same name. The story centers on James Stevens (Anthony Hopkins), a devoted butler serving at Darlington Hall during the interwar period. His life is entirely dedicated to his duties under Lord Darlington (James Fox), suppressing personal feelings in favor of professional obligations. The arrival of the new housekeeper, Miss Kenton (Emma Thompson), introduces emotional complexities as a deep, unfulfilled affection develops between them.
