The Tragedy of Macbeth​

An American historical thriller released in 2021 in the United States, directed by Joel Coen and based on William Shakespeare's play "Macbeth." This marks Joel Coen's first film directed without his brother Ethan's involvement. The story follows Scottish lord Macbeth (Denzel Washington), who is prophesied by three witches to become the King of Scotland. Spurred by his ambitious wife, Lady Macbeth (Frances McDormand), he murders King Duncan (Brendan Gleeson) and seizes the throne. However, his paranoia and guilt lead to tyranny and bloodshed, including the murders of Banquo (Bertie Carvel) and Macduff's family (Corey Hawkins). The film is notable for its stylistic approach, shot in black and white with minimalist sets, emphasizing theatricality and a grim atmosphere. Kathryn Hunter portrays all three witches, adding a sinister element to the narrative.
