AK-47

A 2020 Russian biographical war drama directed by Konstantin Buslov. The film tells the story of Mikhail Timofeevich Kalashnikov (Yuriy Borisov), the Soviet firearms designer and creator of the legendary AK-47 assault rifle. The narrative begins in 1941 when young tank crewman Kalashnikov is severely wounded in battle and sent to a hospital. Unable to return to the frontlines, he dedicates himself to developing a new automatic weapon for the Red Army. Using his knowledge and intuition, he designs an innovative prototype despite limited resources and bureaucratic obstacles. With the support of military engineers and testers, and through his determination, Kalashnikov refines his invention. The film highlights both the technical aspects of creating an iconic firearm and the protagonist’s inner struggles, moral dilemmas, and his desire to contribute to the USSR’s victory.
