Assassination of a High School President

A 2008 American neo-noir comedy film directed by Brett Simon. The story follows Robert "Bobby" Funke (Reece Thompson), an unpopular high school student with dreams of getting into Northwestern University’s summer journalism program. Though he considers himself a great writer, he has never completed an article for the school newspaper. Editor-in-chief Clara Diaz (Melonie Diaz) assigns him to write a piece on student council president and basketball star Paul Moore (Patrick Taylor). Bobby fails to get an interview and is bullied by Paul's friends. When the school's SAT booklets are stolen from Principal Kirkpatrick’s (Bruce Willis) office, Bobby uncovers evidence linking Paul to the crime and writes a revealing article. Paul is forced to open his locker, revealing the stolen tests, making Bobby an instant school celebrity. He earns admiration and even a dance invitation from the beautiful Francesca Facchini (Mischa Barton). However, Paul claims he is innocent, as he already secured a sports scholarship to Cornell University and had no need to cheat. Doubting his own story, Bobby investigates further and discovers that the student council had been altering top students’ grades to force them into buying “study drugs.” Paul was framed, and Francesca had used Bobby to mislead him. Bobby secretly activates the school’s PA system, forcing the true mastermind, Marlon Piazza (Luke Grimes), to confess. With the principal and police intervening, the conspirators are arrested. Francesca tries to manipulate Bobby one last time, but he rejects her.
