The 2012 American action film directed by John Hyams follows a former prisoner who uses martial arts and the teachings of his mysterious mentor to cleanse a city of crime. Ryan Hong (Cung Le) is an ex-convict who, after being released from prison, arrives in the crime-ridden city of St. Jude, where two ruthless gangs rule the streets and keep the citizens in fear. In the past, Hong was trained by the wise and experienced fighter Tiano (Jean-Claude Van Damme), who not only taught him martial arts but also instilled in him the philosophy of fighting for justice. Using his skills, Hong begins to challenge the criminal gangs, disrupting their operations and drawing the attention of the powerful crime lord Mr. V (Peter Weller). As Hong becomes a symbol of resistance and hope for the people, his actions escalate into a brutal conflict that forces him to utilize all his strength and strategic thinking. The film is packed with intense fight scenes, the dark atmosphere of a crime-infested city, and a gripping battle between good and evil, while also showcasing the philosophy of Eastern martial arts and the moral choices of the protagonist.
