Grand Champion

A 2002 American family comedy-drama directed by Barry Tubb. The film tells the story of a young boy named Buddy (Jacob Fisher), who lives with his mother Hallie (Joey Lauren Adams) and sister (Emma Roberts) on a farm in Texas. After the death of his father, Buddy finds solace in caring for a calf named Hokey. Determined to participate in a series of livestock shows, Buddy aims to win the coveted title of "Grand Champion." With the support of family and friends, including Fiona (Natalie Maines), Buddy and Hokey face numerous challenges and competitions, showcasing perseverance and dedication. However, after their victory, Buddy learns that his beloved calf is to be sold for slaughter. Resolving to save Hokey, he sets out to find the new owner, Mr. Blandford (Bruce Willis), to persuade him to return the animal. The film also features Julia Roberts as Jolene and country singer George Strait as himself. "Grand Champion" explores themes of family values, friendship, devotion, and standing up for one's beliefs. Despite the involvement of well-known actors, the film received mixed reviews from critics and had limited success at the box office.
