The 1994 American gothic drama film, directed by Neil Jordan and written by Anne Rice, is based on her novel of the same name. The story unfolds in late 20th-century San Francisco, where journalist Daniel Molloy (Christian Slater) interviews Louis de Pointe du Lac (Brad Pitt), a vampire recounting his two-century-long life. Louis, a former plantation owner from New Orleans, loses his wife and daughter, leading him to accept the offer of vampire Lestat de Lioncourt (Tom Cruise) to become immortal. However, Louis struggles with his new existence, unwilling to kill humans for blood, unlike Lestat, who revels in his vampiric nature. To keep Louis close, Lestat turns a young girl, Claudia (Kirsten Dunst), into a vampire, and she becomes their adopted daughter. Over time, Claudia realizes that her mind matures while her body remains that of a child, causing her anguish and resentment. She attempts to kill Lestat, and together with Louis, they travel to Europe in search of other vampires. In Paris, they encounter Armand (Antonio Banderas), leader of a vampire theater, and face betrayal and tragedy. Louis loses Claudia and, disillusioned, returns to America to continue his solitary existence. The film delves into themes of immortality, morality, loneliness, and human nature through the lens of vampire mythology.
