A Soviet comedy film from 1973, directed by Leonid Gaidai and based on Mikhail Bulgakov’s play Ivan Vasilievich. Engineer and inventor Alexander Timofeev (Alexander Demyanenko), better known as Shurik, creates a time machine in his apartment. During an experiment, he accidentally swaps his building manager, Ivan Vasilyevich Bunsha (Yuri Yakovlev), and a petty thief, Georges Miloslavsky (Leonid Kuravlyov), with Tsar Ivan the Terrible (also played by Yuri Yakovlev), sending the latter to the Soviet era. This mix-up leads to a series of hilarious situations where the impostor tsar struggles to rule the country, while the real Ivan the Terrible is bewildered by modern Soviet life. Filled with iconic humor, memorable quotes, and colorful characters, the film remains one of the most beloved comedies in Russian cinema.
