Kidnapping, Caucasian Style

A Soviet comedy directed by Leonid Gaidai that became a classic. The young and naive student Shurik (Alexander Demyanenko) travels to the Caucasus to collect folklore. There, he meets the cheerful and energetic Nina (Natalya Varley), who is visiting her uncle (Vladimir Etush). However, a local official, Saakhov (Frunzik Mkrtchyan), decides to marry Nina against her will and organizes her kidnapping. He enlists the help of three hapless henchmen—Trus (Georgy Vitsin), Balbes (Yuri Nikulin), and Byvaly (Yevgeny Morgunov). Shurik unwittingly becomes involved in the scheme but, upon realizing the truth, decides to rescue Nina. The film is filled with signature humor, musical numbers, and iconic phrases that have become widely recognized in Russian culture.
