A Mexican singer, songwriter, composer, producer, and actor, born on January 7, 1950, in Parácuaro, Michoacán, Mexico. He began his musical career in 1971 with the release of his debut album "El Alma Joven," which immediately brought him popularity with the hit "No Tengo Dinero." His stage name combines the names of his mentor Juan Contreras and his father Gabriel. Throughout his career, he released over 30 studio albums, including "Recuerdos, Vol. II" (1984), which became one of the best-selling albums in Mexican music history. His work spans genres such as bolero, ranchera, mariachi, and Latin pop. Juan Gabriel wrote over 1,800 songs, performed by more than 1,500 artists worldwide. He sold over 100 million records, making him one of the best-selling Latin American artists. His concerts attracted massive audiences, including a performance at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena before 75,000 attendees. He received numerous awards, including Latin Grammy Awards, Billboard Latin Music Awards, and ASCAP Latin Awards. In 2009, he was named "Person of the Year" by the Latin Recording Academy. Juan Gabriel was also actively involved in philanthropy, founding a school for underprivileged children in Ciudad Juárez. He passed away on August 28, 2016, at the age of 66 from a heart attack during his "MeXXico es Todo" tour. His contribution to music and Mexican culture remains invaluable, and his songs continue to inspire millions of fans around the world.
