Mexican rock band formed in 1981 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, originally named Sombrero Verde. In 1986, the band changed its name to Maná. The original lineup included vocalist and guitarist Fher Olvera, guitarist Ulises Calleros, and bassist Juan Calleros. Drummer Alex González joined the group shortly thereafter. In 1987, they released their debut album "Maná," followed by the 1992 album "¿Dónde Jugarán Los Niños?," which became the best-selling Spanish-language rock album in history, with over 10 million copies sold worldwide. In 1995, they released "Cuando los Ángeles Lloran," marking the introduction of guitarist Sergio Vallín. Subsequent albums include "Sueños Líquidos" (1997), "Revolución de Amor" (2002), "Amar es Combatir" (2006), "Drama y Luz" (2011), and "Cama Incendiada" (2015). Maná is renowned for their live performances, including the acoustic album "MTV Unplugged" (1999) and the live album "Arde el Cielo" (2008). The band has received numerous awards, including 4 Grammy Awards, 8 Latin Grammy Awards, 5 MTV Video Music Awards Latin America, 6 Premios Juventud, 19 Billboard Latin Music Awards, and 15 Premios Lo Nuestro. In 2016, Maná became the first Spanish-language rock band to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2018, they were honored as the Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year. In 2025, Maná became the first Spanish-language rock band nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Their musical style blends elements of Latin pop, rock, pop-rock, progressive rock, ska, and reggae.
