Café Tacuba

Mexican rock band formed in 1989 in Naucalpan de Juárez, State of Mexico, Café Tacuba is one of the most influential groups in the history of Latin American alternative music. Originally known as "Alicia ya no vive aquí," the band changed its name to Café Tacuba, inspired by a namesake café in Mexico City. The lineup has remained unchanged since its inception: Rubén Albarrán (vocals, rhythm guitar), Emmanuel del Real (keyboards, guitar, vocals), Joselo Rangel (lead guitar, vocals), and Enrique Rangel (bass guitar, vocals). Their musical style is an eclectic blend of alternative rock, punk, ska, electronic music, and traditional Mexican genres such as norteño and bolero, creating a unique and recognizable sound. Their debut album, "Café Tacuba" (1992), brought them recognition, while the follow-up "Re" (1994) is considered a masterpiece that significantly influenced the Mexican rock scene. The album "Cuatro Caminos" (2003) won a Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album and was critically acclaimed for its innovative genre fusion. The band has also received eight Latin Grammy Awards, including honors for Best Rock and Alternative Albums, as well as for the songs "Eres" and "Esta Vez." In 2019, Café Tacuba became the first band to record a second MTV Unplugged album, "Un Segundo MTV Unplugged," featuring orchestral arrangements. In 2023, they were honored with the Hispanic Heritage Arts Award for their contributions to culture and the arts. Their work continues to inspire new generations of musicians and listeners worldwide.
