The 2019 American fantasy film, a sequel to Maleficent (2014), directed by Joachim Rønning, takes place several years after the first film’s events. Aurora (Elle Fanning) is now the queen of the Moors, and Maleficent (Angelina Jolie) remains her protector and guardian of their enchanted kingdom. However, peace between magical creatures and humans is threatened when Prince Phillip (Harris Dickinson) proposes to Aurora. His mother, Queen Ingrith (Michelle Pfeiffer), harbors a secret agenda: she seeks to wage war and eradicate magical beings. Maleficent agrees to meet Phillip’s parents, but during the royal dinner, Ingrith provokes her by falsely accusing her of cursing King John (Robert Lindsay), who falls into a magical sleep. Enraged, Maleficent leaves the palace, but she is wounded by an iron bullet fired by Ingrith’s loyal servant, Gerda (Jenn Murray). Weakened, Maleficent is rescued by Conall (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a Dark Fey like herself, who takes her to a hidden sanctuary where she learns of her true origins and the plight of their kind. Meanwhile, Ingrith furthers her plan, developing a deadly weapon using enchanted flower petals that once bore Maleficent’s curse. On the day of Aurora and Phillip’s wedding, Ingrith’s army launches an attack on the Moors, sparking a fierce battle in which the Dark Fey suffer heavy losses. Maleficent embraces her true form as a powerful phoenix and intervenes. At the last moment, Aurora stops Maleficent from killing Ingrith, reminding her of love and kindness. Ingrith attempts to strike Aurora, but Maleficent shields her and transforms the wicked queen into a goat. With Ingrith defeated, Aurora and Phillip marry, uniting their kingdoms in peace. Maleficent bids them farewell, flying away with the Dark Fey, promising to return someday.
