American heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1981 by Danish drummer Lars Ulrich and guitarist-vocalist James Hetfield. The band played a pivotal role in the development of thrash metal, combining aggressive sound with technically complex compositions. Their debut album, "Kill 'Em All" (1983), laid the foundation for the genre, followed by "Ride the Lightning" (1984) and "Master of Puppets" (1986), which solidified their status in the music industry. After the tragic death of bassist Cliff Burton in 1986, he was replaced by Jason Newsted, who contributed to the albums "...And Justice for All" (1988) and "Metallica" (1991), the latter achieving commercial success and bringing the band worldwide fame. In 2003, Robert Trujillo became the bassist. Metallica is known for their live performances and numerous awards, including several Grammy Awards. The band continues to actively perform and record music, remaining one of the most influential in heavy metal history.
