The 2004 French-Israeli drama directed by Amos Gitai opens his "Frontier" trilogy and portrays the harsh realities of human trafficking in the Middle East. The film begins at night in the Sinai desert, where a group of Eastern European women, including Diana (Diana Bespechni), warms themselves by a campfire, unaware that they have been brought for sexual exploitation. They fall victim to an international prostitution network managed by the Frenchwoman Anne (Anne Parillaud), enduring violence, humiliation, and being auctioned off. In Israel, they end up in a Red Sea nightclub owned by Hanna (Hanna Schygulla), where their exploitation continues. Hope emerges when Diana meets the Englishwoman Rose (Rosamund Pike) and pleads for her help. The film highlights the dehumanization inherent in human trafficking, showing how women are stripped of their rights and dignity. It was recognized at the 2004 Venice Film Festival, winning the Cinema for Peace Award.
