The 2019 American action film is the fifth installment in the John Rambo series. Directed by Adrian Grünberg, with a screenplay by Matthew Cirulnick and Sylvester Stallone, the plot follows Vietnam War veteran John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone), who, after years of battles and losses, lives on his family ranch in Arizona, seeking peace. He cares for his adoptive family: Maria Beltran (Adriana Barraza) and her granddaughter Gabrielle (Yvette Monreal), whom he considers his daughter. Gabrielle learns the whereabouts of her biological father in Mexico and, despite warnings from Rambo and Maria, decides to meet him. In Mexico, she is kidnapped by members of a criminal cartel led by brothers Hugo (Sergio Peris-Mencheta) and Victor Martinez (Óscar Jaenada) and forced into prostitution. Upon learning this, Rambo sets out to find her, confronting the cartel's brutality. With the help of independent journalist Carmen Delgado (Paz Vega), whose sister also fell victim to the cartel, he locates and rescues Gabrielle, but she dies from a drug overdose on the way home. Devastated by her death, Rambo prepares his ranch for a final battle, setting traps and arming himself. When Martinez's men arrive, Rambo ambushes them, eliminating them one by one. In the climax, he confronts Hugo, rips out his heart, and leaves him to die. The film concludes with a wounded Rambo sitting on his porch, reflecting on his family and past.
