A 1997 American action thriller film, serving as a loose remake of the 1973 film "The Day of the Jackal," which was based on Frederick Forsyth's novel of the same name. Directed by Michael Caton-Jones, the film stars Bruce Willis, Richard Gere, and Sidney Poitier. The plot begins with a joint operation between the FBI and Russia's MVD in Moscow, resulting in the death of the younger brother of Azerbaijani mobster Terek Murad. In retaliation, Murad hires a mysterious assassin known as "The Jackal" (Bruce Willis) to eliminate a high-profile target in the United States. The identity of the target remains undisclosed, complicating efforts by law enforcement. Deputy FBI Director Carter Preston (Sidney Poitier) and MVD Major Valentina Koslova (Diane Venora) realize they need someone familiar with the Jackal's methods. They enlist imprisoned Irish terrorist Declan Mulqueen (Richard Gere), who has previously encountered the Jackal. In exchange for his freedom, Mulqueen agrees to assist in capturing the assassin. The film follows the tense cat-and-mouse game between the Jackal and the authorities, showcasing the assassin's use of disguises and high-tech weaponry to achieve his objective. The climax unfolds in the Washington Metro, where Mulqueen and his former lover Isabella (Mathilda May) confront the Jackal in a decisive showdown. The film received mixed reviews from critics but achieved commercial success, grossing over $159 million worldwide against a $60 million budget.
