The Last Stand

The 2013 American action film follows former Los Angeles police officer Ray Owens (Arnold Schwarzenegger), who, after a failed operation resulting in the death of his colleagues, becomes the sheriff of the quiet border town Sommerton Junction. The town's peace is disrupted when dangerous drug lord Gabriel Cortez (Eduardo Noriega) escapes FBI custody in Las Vegas and speeds toward the Mexican border in a modified Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, holding agent Ellen Richards (Genesis Rodriguez) hostage. The FBI, led by Agent John Bannister (Forest Whitaker), fails to stop him, leaving Owens and his team—Deputy Sarah Torrance (Jaimie Alexander), Deputy Mike Figuerola (Luis Guzmán), imprisoned Frank Martinez (Rodrigo Santoro), and eccentric weapons enthusiast Lewis Dinkum (Johnny Knoxville)—to set up a blockade to prevent Cortez from crossing the border. In a tense shootout with Cortez's mercenaries, including his chief aide Burrell (Peter Stormare), the sheriff's team suffers casualties but successfully apprehends the criminal. In the final scene, Owens personally catches up with Cortez and, after a fierce struggle, hands him over to the FBI. The film blends elements of classic Westerns and modern action, exploring themes of duty, honor, and second chances.
