The 2013 American urban fantasy film, directed by Harald Zwart, is based on Cassandra Clare's novel of the same name. The plot follows 18-year-old Clarissa "Clary" Fray (Lily Collins), who discovers she is a descendant of a line of Shadowhunters—a secret cadre of half-human, half-angel warriors dedicated to protecting the world from demons. After her mother Jocelyn (Lena Headey) disappears, Clary joins forces with Shadowhunters, including Jace Wayland (Jamie Campbell Bower), Alec Lightwood (Kevin Zegers), and Isabelle Lightwood (Jemima West), to rescue her mother and prevent the villain Valentine Morgenstern (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) from obtaining a powerful artifact—the Mortal Cup. Along the way, Clary encounters a world filled with magical beings such as vampires, werewolves, and warlocks, and learns about her true destiny. Her best friend Simon Lewis (Robert Sheehan) becomes entangled in this perilous world, grappling with his feelings for Clary and jealousy toward Jace. The film delves into themes of love, betrayal, family secrets, and the battle between good and evil, immersing the audience in a dark and captivating supernatural realm.
