A 2016 American fantasy adventure film directed by James Bobin and written by Linda Woolverton, it serves as a sequel to the 2010 film "Alice in Wonderland" and is based on characters created by Lewis Carroll. The story follows Alice Kingsleigh (Mia Wasikowska), who, upon returning from a sea voyage, learns that her mother must sell their family ship. Alice soon passes through a mirror and returns to Underland, where she discovers that her friend, the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp), is depressed, believing his long-lost family is still alive. To save him, Alice visits the palace of Time (Sacha Baron Cohen), a humanoid entity who controls time, and uses the Chronosphere — a device that enables time travel — to journey into the past. During her travels, she encounters younger versions of the Red Queen Iracebeth (Helena Bonham Carter) and the White Queen Mirana (Anne Hathaway), uncovering the origins of their feud. Alice attempts to alter past events to prevent tragedies but soon realizes that interfering with time can have dire consequences. The film explores themes of time, family, and forgiveness, featuring vibrant visual effects and a musical score by Danny Elfman. Despite its star-studded cast and visual appeal, the film received mixed reviews from critics and grossed approximately $299 million worldwide against a budget of $170 million.
