The Nutcracker and the Four Realms​

The 2018 American fantasy adventure film directed by Lasse Hallström and Joe Johnston is based on E.T.A. Hoffmann's story "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King" and Tchaikovsky's ballet. The story follows Clara Stahlbaum (Mackenzie Foy), a young girl in Victorian London who receives a mysterious egg-shaped box from her father Benjamin (Matthew Macfadyen) on Christmas Eve, a gift left by her late mother Marie (Anna Madeley). To unlock the box, Clara needs a special key, which she discovers at a holiday party hosted by her godfather Drosselmeyer (Morgan Freeman). Following a golden thread, Clara enters a magical world divided into four realms: the Land of Snowflakes, the Land of Flowers, the Land of Sweets, and the Fourth Realm. There, she learns that her mother was the queen and that she herself is a princess. With the help of soldier Phillip (Jayden Fowora-Knight) and other allies, Clara confronts the perceived threat of Mother Ginger (Helen Mirren), only to discover that the true antagonist is the Sugar Plum Fairy (Keira Knightley), who seeks to dominate the realms. The film blends classic fairy tale elements with new plot twists, visually stunning sets, and ballet performances featuring ballerina Misty Copeland.​
