A British rock band formed in 1962 in London, England, by Brian Jones (guitar), Mick Jagger (vocals), Keith Richards (guitar), and Ian Stewart (keyboards), The Rolling Stones became one of the most influential and enduring acts in rock music history. Their first performance under the name "The Rollin' Stones" took place on July 12, 1962, at the Marquee Club in London. Soon after, bassist Bill Wyman and drummer Charlie Watts joined the group, completing the classic lineup. The band quickly gained popularity for their energetic performances and unique style that blended blues, rock and roll, and rhythm and blues. In 1963, Andrew Loog Oldham became their manager, playing a crucial role in shaping their image and promoting their music. Over the decades, The Rolling Stones released numerous successful albums, including "Aftermath," "Beggars Banquet," "Let It Bleed," "Sticky Fingers," "Exile on Main St.," and "Some Girls." Their songs, such as "Satisfaction," "Paint It Black," "Sympathy for the Devil," and "Angie," have become rock classics. The band has received numerous awards, including a Grammy for Best Rock Album in 1995 and a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1986. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989. Despite lineup changes and the departure of some members, The Rolling Stones continued to perform and record music actively. In 2021, drummer Charlie Watts passed away, but the band carried on. In 2025, they won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album for "Hackney Diamonds," reaffirming their legendary status in rock music.
