Transformers: The Last Knight

The 2017 American science fiction action film directed by Michael Bay is the fifth installment in the "Transformers" series. The plot begins with Optimus Prime (voiced by Peter Cullen) leaving Earth to find his creator and discovering that his home planet, Cybertron, is destroyed. Quintessa (Gemma Chan), the self-proclaimed creator of the Transformers, blames Prime for Cybertron's demise and subjugates him, renaming him Nemesis Prime. She tasks him with retrieving Merlin's staff, located on Earth, which is the key to reviving Cybertron at the expense of Earth's destruction, as Earth is revealed to be Unicron—the ancient enemy of the Transformers. On Earth, Transformers are outlawed, and a special unit, TRF, hunts them. Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg), sheltering Autobots in a junkyard in South Dakota, finds a dying Transformer who gives him a talisman meant for the "Last Knight." Meanwhile, in England, Sir Edmund Burton (Anthony Hopkins), the last of the Witwiccan Order dedicated to preserving the secret history of Transformers on Earth, learns of Cybertron's awakening and assembles key individuals to prevent catastrophe. He enlists the help of Viviane Wembly (Laura Haddock), an Oxford professor and the last descendant of Merlin, capable of wielding his staff. Cade and Viviane embark on a quest to find the staff, hidden in Merlin's tomb aboard a sunken Transformer ship. They face opposition from TRF and Decepticons led by Megatron (voiced by Frank Welker), who seek the staff for their own purposes. During the final battle on Cybertron, which has begun merging with Earth, Optimus Prime is freed from Quintessa's control by Bumblebee (voiced by Erik Aadahl) and joins forces with the Autobots and humans. Viviane uses her hereditary rights to deactivate the staff, halting Earth's destruction. The film concludes with humans and Transformers uniting to restore their worlds and a warning of a new threat.
