Tune in Tomorrow

The 1990 American romantic comedy, directed by Jon Amiel, is based on Mario Vargas Llosa's novel "Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter." The setting is relocated from 1950s Lima to New Orleans of the same era. Martin Loader (Keanu Reeves), a young man working at the local radio station WXBU, aspires to become a writer. The station hires renowned radio serial scriptwriter Pedro Carmichael (Peter Falk), known for his eccentric and provocative storylines often based on real people around him. Pedro becomes a mentor to Martin, inspiring his creativity. Meanwhile, Martin's aunt Julia (Barbara Hershey), a distant relative not related by blood, returns to town. Julia is an attractive, twice-divorced woman seeking a new partner. Despite a significant age difference and societal prejudices, Martin and Julia embark on a romantic relationship. Upon learning about their affair, Pedro starts incorporating details of their romance into his daily radio drama "Kings of the Garden District." Consequently, Martin and Julia hear events mirroring their own lives on the radio, sometimes foreshadowing real occurrences. This leads to tension in their relationship, prompting them to reevaluate their feelings and decisions. The film masterfully blends humor and drama, exploring themes of love, creativity, morality, and the influence of art on real life. The soundtrack was composed by jazz musician Wynton Marsalis, who also makes a cameo appearance alongside members of his band.
