Winemaking

Is an ancient agricultural, artisanal, and culinary practice of producing wine from grapes and other fruits through fermentation, involving various methods of processing, aging, and blending. Winemaking originated in the Middle East around 6000 years ago, with archaeological evidence pointing to early wine production in modern-day Iran, Armenia, and Georgia, where the oldest known winemaking facilities have been discovered. The process includes several stages: harvesting, crushing, fermentation, pressing, aging, filtering, and bottling. Modern winemakers combine tradition with innovation, applying scientific methods to fermentation and quality control. Winemaking is practiced on various scales — from home-based and artisanal producers to large-scale commercial wineries. Wine is a key part of gastronomic culture and tasting events, and it features in competitions and festivals, including prestigious international awards such as the Decanter World Wine Awards.
