This 1970 American drama film, directed by Italian filmmaker Michelangelo Antonioni, serves as a visually rich and symbolic exploration of the United States counterculture in the late 1960s. The narrative follows two young individuals: Mark (Mark Frechette), a student involved in radical protests, and Daria (Daria Halprin), an anthropology student working for a Los Angeles property developer. After participating in a student rally where Mark is suspected of killing a policeman, he steals an airplane and heads into the desert. There, he encounters Daria, and a romantic connection develops between them. They spend time at Zabriskie Point, where their relationship culminates in a symbolic love scene set against the desert landscape. The film concludes with Daria imagining the destruction of her boss's house, symbolizing her internal rebellion against consumerist society. Despite its initial commercial failure and negative critical reception, the film has since gained a cult following due to its visual aesthetics and soundtrack featuring music by Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, and Jerry Garcia.
